Click Here for information about the October 20th Presentation about Jonah's bicycle pilgrimage.
What?Jonah McDonald will bicycle 450 miles on the Natchez Trace Parkway from Nashville, Tennessee to Natchez, Mississippi. This will be a solo bicycle trek with no automobile support. Jonah will carry all of his food and shelter and will camp along the way.
When?September 26th - October 2nd. Jonah do a presentation about his trip with stories and photos on October 20th. Location T.B.A.
Why this pilgrimage? This ride is a fundraiser to help in the rebuilding process of communities devastated by Hurricane Katrina. 100% of all money raised by this ride will go to American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) Katrina Response Efforts. Hopefully, this ride will help raise money for and awareness of marginalized communities that are having a difficult time procuring aid.
Why this route? The Natchez Trace Parkway is a National Scenic Highway and bicycle route winding through rural Tennessee, Alabama, and Mississippi. This ride will take me directly into the heart of the area affected by the Hurricane. Natchez is a small town just north of Baton Rouge and New Orleans, but it is housing and supporting many evacuees and its emergency personnel are working hard in coastal areas.
Why bicycle? The way most Americans have been directly affected by Katrina has been skyrocketing gasoline prices. Doing this trip without any automobile support symbolizes a change of mentality and lifestyle that the disaster has demanded of all of us.
